Göweil is no stranger to bales — and the technology involved in creating them. After all, it has been building wrappers for over 25 years and even produces maize silage balers. Last year it added a new fixed-chamber round baler to its family, and we caught up with the combi version in the field
Austrian maker Göweil has come to the round baler market with something rather different: an upward rotating rotor, 30-knife chopping system and a double net or film application system are among the spec highlights. Aimed squarely at the contractor end of the sector, the G-1 F125 is a heavy-build, top spec baler, which will be available as a standalone unit or as a wrapper combi.
Best place to start — the 2.20m wide pick-up with mechanical suspension and pendulum pivot with 150mm of travel. The height-adjustable guide wheels are non-pivoting. The pick-up has six rows of 5.5mm tines, spaced 51mm apart with plastic scrapers arranged between them that provide a close fit with the tines to help with material flow. Another flow enhancing detail is that the tines on the outer rows are positioned slightly ahead of those in the middle, assisting with forage transfer to and from the stub augers. A double crop press roller sits over the pickup with a pin and hole arrangement for finetuning.
Next in line is a hydraulically powered168mm diameter smooth surface feed roller which spins at the same pace as the main rotor and helps to guide the crop on its upward, yes upward, journey. The crop flows over rather than under the main 570mm diameter rotor through the knives and on into the bale chamber. It is a straight, albeit steep journey for the crop
