At the front of its Agritechnica stand, Güttler showed a prototype system with seed tubes fixed to the rear of the tine. Having gauged interest in the concept, it has now made its way to the field. We caught up with the 6.0m version
For many years, Güttler has offered the GreenMaster harrow with a seeder that broadcasts seed from a series of spreader plates behind the tines. The downside to broadcasting is that, if the grass is wet or you’re working in a denser stand, some of the seed will not actually reach the ground where it can germinate.
More precision
This is why the company has developed a new seed boot that still offers all the advantages of a grass harrow with greatly improved seed placement. We were able to harrow and reseed around 100ha earlier this year with the new GreenMaster 600 tine seeder. In terms of build, the 600 has seed delivery tubes welded to the back of each tine. The tube ends are slotted so the air can escape and the seeds are placed closer to the ground. We found that even in wet and very dense swards the seed was still reaching the soil.
GreenMaster plus Quattro
All Güttler grass harrows come under the GreenMaster banner. On this version, the seeding tines are in two rows to create a line spacing of 75mm. The 12mm thick tines are cranked at the end and can be set up quite aggressively. Tine angle was manually set on our machine. A wire rope threaded through the double coils prevents any tines becoming lost, should they break.
