Mounted mowers are much of a muchness mechanically. That’s not only true but extremely difficult to say after a few beers.

The gist of it is that the maintenance tips coming up apply to brands beyond the JF-Stoll mower conditioner shown; for example, its Kuhn-sourced bed is shared with some John Deere mowers and Kuhn’s own products. As usual, the details may change but the broad principles apply. These are not complex machines. For a pre-season service you’ll need spanners, the correct tool(s) to change blades, a grease gun and a stock of the appropriate oil. And ideally the machine’s handbook; if that’s disappeared, many companies now post downloadable versions on the internet.

The unit featured here is JF’s GX 2805 SM. At 2.8m working width it’s a very popular size, requiring a tractor of around 125hp for power. This ex-farm example had seen just one season’s work.
