Don’t fret Deere fans, your tractors will still come in their familiar green and yellow. It’s just that they’re moving on from their diesel-only strategy and adding SCR to the exhaust emission mix for Stage IV compliance, with the long-wheelbase 6R models joining the 7310R in its use of AdBlue. Is that it? Not quite. Read on to discover what else features on the 6R update list.
For 2015 John Deere is updating the larger 6R models to Stage IV status. Among the changes is a 5hp hike across the board, which in turn means a change in model number to 6175R, 6195R
and 6215R. The Intelligent Power Management boost has also gone up from 30hp to 40hp for pto operation over 1.5km/hr or 15km/hr for transport. On the 6195R this means a maximum output of 179kW/240hp with boost (97/68EC). All three models stick with the six-pot, 6.8- litre PowerTech engine with external EGR and, as with the Stage IIIB units, a DOC and DPF. The latter is now said to be service-free for life, which is put at around 15,000 hours depending on the tractor’s workload; previously this was a service exchange unit at around the 5,000-6,000 hour mark dependent on the work cycle. Sitting at the bottom of the bigger exhaust stack is the SCR catalyst. While the 6175R has the PVS engine, the 6195R and 6215R use the PSS motor, which gains a fixed geometry turbo to work with the variable geometry unit. Good news on servicing, too, with engine oil change intervals going from 500 hours to 750 hours.
