PRACTICAL TEST: When it came to diving into the mower market, McHale took the logical step of developing machines that would match up with its baler offering. So for now there are three models within the Pro Glide family: the front-mounted F3100, rear-mounted R3100 and butterfly B9000. The units on test here are the front and rear F and R models.

The Pro Glide F3100 is coupled directly to the tractor front linkage, as opposed to using an A-frame, which makes sense for a mower conditioner weighing in at 1,260kg. Attachment is made simple thanks to a useful sticker informing you of the height and alignment, so you can make the necessary adjustments on the lift arms and top link. Unfortunately, the decal did not survive the course after the first few machine washes.
When parked up, the mower is safely propped on two sturdy stands. If the host tractor is on big front rubber, then you need to turn the wheels slightly to allow the stands to fold up into their stowed position. To unhitch the mower, clamp the ram in place so it doesn’t retract and accidentally lower the mower when off the tractor. The clip resides under the easy-to-open bonnet panel.
