With the rustle of fast-growing grass all around, now’s the time to sort out the farm’s mower conditioner. Good practical advice comes from Phil Vickery, south-west area manager for Kverneland Group UK. Andrew Pearce looks after the words and pictures

Kverneland’s 3132 MT is a 3.2m wide, mounted mower-conditioner. Targeted at farmers and ag contractors as a stand-alone tool, it’s also suited to life as part of a 6.3m double-bed combo. Danish-built and a Taarup at heart, the 3132 is a relatively sophisticated piece of equipment. Standard hydraulic suspension for the centre-pivot bed comes via a single ram and accumulator, an arrangement that not only allows bed pressure to be varied on the move, but also lets the bed lift out of work independent of the tractor’s rear linkage.

Non-stop break-back protection is achieved through a spring and pivot below the headstock, while the belt-driven conditioner features pairs of steel SemiSwing tines: these items are claimed to combine the conditioning effect of a fixed tine with the impact resistance of a floating tine. Crop can be dispersed for wilting by the standard FlipOver kit, which brings a set of spreader vanes into play
