DRIVING IMPRESSION: Claas has pretty much gone back to the drawing board for its latest generation of fourrotor rakes, with only the rotor head recognisable from the old range. We caught up with the biggest model, the 10.1m to 15.0m Liner 4900, at the end of last season

So, Claas has a new range of four-rotor rakes with three different working widths to help satisfy the appetite of hungry self-propelled foragers.

The Liner 4700 (9.30m to 12.70m) only comes in Trend spec, with reduced electronics, fewer sensors and direct hydraulic connection. Next up is the 4800 (9.30m to 13.60m), which comes with the full array of electro-wizardry ie in ‘Business’ attire. The daddy in the range is the 4900 Business (10.10m to 15.00m). Novelties at a glance The trapezoidal central beam certainly stands out compared with the previous box section. The all-new design has a significantly larger cross-section for better stability and rigidity.

According to Claas, the frame is made of highstrength steel, and houses the electronics as well as the hydraulic plumbing and valves. The cross shaft that connects the rake to the tractor’s lower links benefits from additional transverse travel. The hose rack has also been revamped, and on the Business models this is home to the load-sensing hydraulic and electric lines and the brake hoses. The parking stand has finally received a long-overdue makeover, so it offers more convenient semiautomatic operation.
