USED MACHINERY New Holland CR twin-rotor combine harvesters: … being no more than a tweaked New Holland TF. The firm first leaked details that it was working on a new rotary combine to replace its TF series back in 1998, although it wasn’t until 2002 that the all-new CR960 and CR980 models reached customers. Five seasons on, some of the earliest CRs are now starting to appear on the second-hand market. James de Havilland reports

There is nothing too complicated about the history of New Holland’s CR rotary combine. Developed alongside its straw walker CX sibs, a CR employs the same basic running gear, cabin and cleaning set-up, the CX threshing system and straw walkers being supplanted by a couple of horizontal rotors within the CR. There is more to the machine than that, of course, yet the reality is that there is a significant amount of common ground between the CX and CR.
