Practical test: A year ago Hardi introduced the Mega range of tractor-mounted sprayers. They stand out mainly because they are easy to use, have a sturdy design and come well-equipped. So we had to look very closely to find their weak points

Hardi’s trademark used to be its bulbous yellow tanks. As the last manufacturer to use the design, Hardi has finally kissed it goodbye and fitted a new tank to all its new sprayers.

Now the 1000 litre capacity Mega LHY sprayer’s neat appearance is a real eye catcher. But there is more to the machine than just its looks. All the components have also been grouped around the tank really neatly in a logical layout. The control taps are arranged vertically on the left hand side of the sprayer and the suction and delivery hose marked in different colours. The induction hopper is also mounted on the left – looking from the back.

There is space below and to the side of the tank to hold two, optional, 80 litre capacity, clean water tanks (£280 each). Their shape is formed perfectly to match the base of the main tank. The only component fitted to the right-hand side of the machine is the standard 15 litre capacity clean water tank.
