With the EuroPlough, Lemken is gearing up for European conditions, both in terms of badging and technical specification. Last autumn we tested the hydraulically variable furrow width version, the Vari-EuroPlough 7
Optimising plough output on mixed soils, manoeuvring around in-field obstacles, and trying to maintain a furrow rhubarb-straight rather than banana-bent – these are all reasons why on-the-move furrow width adjustment is becoming a more popular option on the modern reversible plough. Buyers, it would seem, are prepared to part with extra cash for vari-width benefits despite the system’s additional weight and technical complexity. As an example of this increasingly prevalent plough breed, we tested the Lemken Vari-EuroPlough in the autumn of 1997, soon after it was launched.
Our particular four-furrow test model was kitted out in what Lemken terms ‘maize spec’, complete with 95cm body clearance and Universal slatted bodies. Recommended hp requirement is 62kW/85hp to 96kW/130hp, hence slotting our rather tired 74kW/100hp John Deere 3350 into the lower half of Lemken’s suggested band.
