Already on sale for a number of seasons, the Sulky DPX fertiliser spreaders have benefited from a recent facelift. As well as the Prima version, capable of spreading up to a 24m bout width, the French firm now offers two other ranges – the Expert for spreading up to 28m and the Magnum for up to 36m. We review the whole line-up, but focus on the mid-size Expert

Precise application rate, straightforward operation, easy cleaning and, of course, a reasonable price – a list of ‘wants’ when replacing the farm’s fertiliser spreader. So, against all of these buying criteria, how does Sulky’s DPX measure up?

First, a spec analysis of the complete line-up. In this respect Sulky is no different to any of its rivals, offering a bewildering number of variants in respect of working widths and hopper capacities. The model breakdown starts with three main versions: Prima, Expert and Magnum.

Prima provides spreading widths of 12m-24m and hopper capacities of 900-1,800 litres, while the more advanced Expert gives 12-28m widths and 1,500-2,400-litre capacities. Completing the range, the Magnum boasts capacities up to 3,200 litres and spreading widths to 36m. As for the spreading vanes themselves, there are two types differing both in length and diameter. Disc drive is direct from the pto.
