As tedder width grows, so does the machine’s weight. Which means that some smaller tractors may struggle to hoist the larger tedders at the headland or on the road. Vicon’s solution? To fit a pair of wheels to its eight-rotor 9m Fanex 903
It makes for an intriguing sight, the Fanex 903 tedder working up and down the field with those two transport wheels pointing skywards – like two black golf balls, teed up and waiting to be smacked down the pasture fairway.
Yet there is far more to the Fanex than this distinguishing transport feature option. Indeed this was just one of four main machine highlights picked out by our team of testers:
■ Robust build quality
■ Simple fold-up frame, worked by two hydraulic rams
■ Quick adjustment to suit different crop conditions in the field
■ Optional transport gear for use with lower hp tractors.
In the UK the transport gear option is less likely to be a factor because most farm operators are likely to be running the 903 on tractors of 80hp+ – in other words, on tractors more than capable of carrying the 1,100kg tedder weight without additional assistance. Emphasising the point, Vicon doesn’t actually price up the transport gear in the UK. Still, there may be some out there interested, so let’s deal with this ‘wheel factor’.
