When it comes to straw bedding machines, Teagle claims top-dog position in the UK market. Resting on its Cornish laurels? Not a bit of it. Over the past three years the firm has been developing a new blower and chopper unit for its entire range of bedding and feeding machines — to deliver more throughput and a greater spreading distance.
Factoring in labour and straw savings, Truro-based company Teagle Machinery reckons a Tomahawk 8100 trailed straw bedder should pay for itself within just two years when bedding down a 200-head herd. And that’s before building in the machine’s ‘Dual Chop’ capability for chopping straw to go in a diet feeder, the firm’s theory being that chopping straw to a uniform size makes it more palatable and reduces mixing time.
When it comes to sales, Teagle claims pole position in the UK market, although it still manages to export 50% of its annual production (1,000+ units) to 35 other countries. The company developed its first shredder 30 years ago and has recently updated its entire range of trailed Tomahawk feeder bedders. Main changes are a more efficient blower unit and other tweaks to improve the machines’ overall performance and ease of maintenance.
