The T5 DynamicCommand fills the gap between the T5 ElectroCommand and larger T6. We tested the top T5 model, the T5.140 DC, which, according to New Holland’s stats sheet, is rated at 96kW/130hp.

We’re clearly no strangers to New Holland’s dual-clutch DynamicCommand gearbox, having put the T6.175 DC under the spotlight in our 5/2018 tractor test. And, since Agritechnica 2019, the same mechanical transmission has also been available in the four-model, 100-130hp T5.

Interesting mix of 5 and 6

While both the engine and transmission are identical to the heavier T6’s, the front and back axles are shared with the company’s T5 ElectroCommand. All this is topped off with the new ‘SuperVision’ low profile cab… but more on the office space later.

While we’re well acquainted with FPT’s NEF motor, the T5 DC has the Stage V compliant version, which uses an enhanced SCR unit to reduce its particulates by 40% without resorting to EGR — very good. The turbo has a wastegate, and our test 5.140 DC had the optional exhaust brake. We were keen to find out how all of these various items would perform, so packed the T5 off to the DLG test centre for an initial assessment.

On the dynamometer, exactly 80kW/107hp of the T5.140 DC model’s 96kW/129hp rated engine power arrived at the stub. That’s fine, because the engine picks up speed as its revs drop. The DLG boffins measured 91.6kW/122.8hp maximum pto output at an engine speed of 1,700rpm — again, a very good return.
