It may be Swift by name, but is Väderstad’s cultivator swift by nature? We stick it in some dirt to find the answer…

The Swift is a large cultivator that works at relatively shallow depths — down to 200mm — using heavy spring tines. In Väderstad’s UK lineup it sits between the lighter-tined NZA tine cultivator and deeper-working Opus/TopDown/Cultus ranges. Working widths extend from 4.0m to 8.7m, with wider models having hydraulic depth adjustment and support wheels for their wings. Minimum power requirement spans 130hp-260hp. With no following roller (although a drawbar can be added for one) the Swift is said to be popular where land for spring drilling needs to be opened up and left open, or in damp going where the lack of a hefty rear packer is a help. Depth control comes from the transport wheels.

The Swift hooks up to a tractor with either a ring hitch, a ball hitch or a linkage drawbar. Where a ring/ball hitch is used, the machine is levelled hydraulically by a ram between the main frame and drawbar, with setting decided by spacers carried on the cultivator. The ram is optional with linkage drawbar models, and the 4.4m Swift we had for test came with one.
