Last summer Vicon had a limited number of the new Extra 7100T rear butterfly mower-conditioners working in the field. We caught up with one to see what the firm’s top of the range triple has to offer
When it came to high-output triple mowers, Vicon was starting to lag behind. That is until it launched the Extra 7100T. Visually it stands out for its wedge-shape design with slick panels and in particular the firm’s Quattro-Link suspension system. The headstock is a totally new design with Cat III and IV mounting points. There are reasonable holders either side of the top link to store the hydraulic lines and electric plugs. Hitching up to the tractor is quick thanks to the load-sensing system, and the Extra 7100T can be stored in its folded position.
The telescoping arms look after the hydraulic side-shift function. Each mower can move sideways by up to 400mm, increasing the cutting width from 9.80m to 10.20m. The shift can be made on the move by pressing a button in the cab. Since our driving impression Vicon has also added an automatic option in the form of Geo Mow. This uses GPS to alter the cutting width to minimise overlaps and then raise each mower as it finishes its respective pass; it also looks after lowering the mowers back into work. Geo Mow will be an option for the triple mowers.
