Vicon introduced the mounted Fanex 1124H in 2017 as the widest working, fully mounted tedder on the market with its 10 rotors spanning a width of 11m. Last year it was joined by the semi-mounted 1124C, with the running gear carrying most of the machine’s weight. We tested both variations in 2018 with the machines arriving on farm in June, a little later than planned as the tedder market was booming and parts were in short supply. But with the drought stunting grass growth we had to wait until later in the season when there was some heavier crop to deal with. First up, the fully mounted Fanex 1124H which when folded for transport is 3.66m high. Under each rotor are 18.5×8.5-8 tyres with the rotors spaced at 1.12m. The machine can be stored in its folded position, sitting on the two central wheels, while a parking stand provides some reassuring stability.

The 1124C comes complete with running gear and drawbar with a strong parking stand and a good track width. Another advantage of the trailed, semi-mounted model is the increased space between the tractor and tedder, which makes it easier to attach the two point-linkage and other couplings.

Both variants have good holders to store the pto shaft and hydraulic hoses. The mounted Fanex in base spec has just one double-acting spool. Its trailed sibling takes two — one for folding and the other for the standard border spreading system.
