After a period that saw strong export sales seriously deplete stocks of its used tractors, Zetor has pushed hard to persuade its dealers to keep more units, such as the Proxima, back for the second-hand UK and Irish markets. James de Havilland reports on whether this policy is working for both suppliers and customers

Anyone on the lookout for a used 70 to 100hp yard tractor and loader combination will almost certainly have shared a similar experience. Frustration — followed by yet more frustration. These tractors, in decent condition, are hard to locate, regardless of make or model. It isn’t exactly fresh news either, as this dearth of stock/yard tractors has been the trend for a decade or more.

As outlined when we last focused on buying a used Zetor Super/Proxima (profi 06/06), one reason why this class of tractor became such a tricky used find was that dealers from areas including Eastern Europe were scouring the UK for loader tractors. Zetor tractors were among the most highly sought after, with many examples departing these shores. As a result, the UK market in particular was seriously depleted of used Super and earlier Zetor models.
