Claas has added five new models to the Scorpion range; the 733, 1033, 638, 738 and 742.
The higher hydraulic pressure, 100mm longer wheelbase and modifications to the rear counterweight allow the new handlers to deliver up to 300kg more lift capacity – 3.3t in the 1033 and 733 entry models and 4.2t in the 742.
The 143hp Liebherr four-pot diesel delivers a hydraulic output of max. 160l/m at 1600rpm. During loading, Dynamic Power automatically adjusts the engine speed to the joystick angle for faster load cycles. New functions include automatic bucket return to the previously saved position, automatic bucket shake, and automatic retraction of the telescopic arm (not for 1033).
The Varipower 2 hydrostat comes from the Jaguar. The larger dual hydraulic motor in the optional Varipower 3 for the Scorpion 738 and 742 transfers around 20% more tractive force to the wheels. Both transmissions reach a top speed of up to 40km/hr.
The partially glazed access door in the updated cab swings open by 180 degrees. There are new storage compartments, and increased insulation in the door reduces in cab noise levels.
The redesigned steering column eases getting in and out of the cab and provides more foot room, and the relocated pedal makes it easier to remove the mats for cleaning. Height and angle of the steering wheel is adjustable, and positioning the display above the steering wheel makes it easier to read. The redesigned dashboard, joystick, key controls and 3.5-inch colour screen (optional 7-inch screen), all now move with the operator’s seat.
An extra LED headlight on the left-hand A pillar with Coming Home function provides additional safety. When activated, the headlight stays on for 60 seconds after the engine has been switched off to illuminate the area on the left side of the machine.
Air brake models have a connection for a blow gun by the cab step, and a brush and shovel holder is a new option at the rear. On the opposite side, there is room for a removable 5.0l water tank.
