John Deere used the recent Bauma construction event in Germany to show its construction machines for the first time in Europe.

When Deere & Co acquired the German-headquartered Wirtgen Group at the end of 2017, industry insiders suggested it would provide a stepping stone to Europe for John Deere construction equipment.

One and a half years after the acquisition, construction kit has arrived in Europe, but is currently only available through the Wirtgen Group’s German and French sales and service companies.

The 14 machines on display at Bauma included excavators, motor graders, skid steers, backhoe loaders and the recently introduced 192hp 624L wheel loader (bucket capacity 2.3m³ to 4.0m³).

The company stresses that the machines are only available in France and Germany, and that none of them will be sold in the UK & Ireland.

It remains to be seen whether the company has any long term plans to bring them to Britain, and whether it could at some point also look to target the European agricultural sector with wheel loaders and skid steers.
