Fitted with an 8.0t bunker and three separators, the Evo 280 two-row trailed potato harvester was one of the highlights at last week’s Grimme Technica.

Described as one of the largest trailed potato harvesters on the market (also suitable for carrots, onions, and other root crops), externally it shares the design with the Evo 290 (9.0t bunker) launched at the 2017 Agritechnica.

Internally, the newcomer previewed at Grimme HQ in Damme, Germany, is described as an evolution of the SE Series. It shares some of the technology with the SE 150-60, but then with a third larger bunker, larger sieving area and higher performance separators.

The first main web has a 16% higher sieving area than the SE 150-60, and the drop heights between the main webs and onto the first separator have been reduced. The width of the first separator has been increased by 15% and the second by 78%.

The third separator is either the ClodSep or for lighter conditions the EasySep. The optional Speedtronic automatically adjusts the speed of the separators and the picking table to the harvesting conditions, and the picking platform has space for six instead of four people at the 1.10m-wide picking table.

The axle telescopes up to 3.5m to increase in-field stability, and the Evo 280 is exactly 3.0m wide on the road. Automatic levelling and axle self-centring are standard and tyres options include 850/50 R30.5 radials. The ISObus capable harvester is controlled via the CCI 50 or new 12.1” CCI 1200 terminal.
