Krone has rounded off its sixth-generation Big Pack large square baler offering with the new Plus and redesigned Pro variants.

Plus variants are said to be an attractive option for customers seeking straightforward good value for money technology. With higher levels of automation, the Pro range is for high bale counts, difficult crops and challenging conditions.

“With the Plus and Pro models, we are, for the first time, giving our customers the opportunity to choose a large square baler which precisely matches their scope of use and budget, rather than having to settle for a machine which requires compromises,” says André Wilmer, product manager for large square balers.

The three models in each range (1270, 1290 and HDP 1290) not only share the same redesigned drawbar, hitch and axles, but also numerous other components. These include the pick-up, knotter systems, user interfaces and a wide range of accessories and options. Moisture measurement, work lights and silage additive units are also standardised across all series.

One of the main differences concerns the cutting unit, which on the Plus is the XCut with maximum 26 blades. This is changed manually and there are three blade groups. Pro models use the hydraulically operated VariCut (VC) unit with 26 or 51 blades (optional on the Plus 1270) and five blade groups. Pro models can also be fitted with the front-mounted PreChop. This is not available on Plus balers.

Other differences include the Variable Filling System (VFS). This is mechanical on Plus models. The electrically controlled version on the Pro is adjusted from the cab. Krone says this not only results in less wear and tear when squeezing out high numbers of bales but also easier maintenance.

As well as the electronically adjustable VFS and hydraulically folding twine boxes, Pro variants also come with the PowerClean Pro knotter cleaning system.

Tyre sizes are up to 22.5 inches (Plus) and 22.5 or 26.5 inches (Pro). There is LED lighting in the twine boxes, and knotting and needle areas. The twine boxes are manually lowered on the Plus (hydraulic on the Pro).

The redesigned bale channel, stronger side bale channel flap cylinders, reinforced yoke and side plunger blades on HDP Plus and Pro versions is said to help ensure consistently high bale weights in dry and difficult conditions.
