FarmDroid has developed a 6.75m version of its autonomous FD field robot. The first units will be available early next year.
Seeding or mechanically weeding 20 rows at a time, the Danish company has calculated that the FD60 will cover at least 60ha a season: three times the capacity of the existing 12-row FD20.
With a daily capacity of up to 18ha (FD20 6ha), the 23.5kWh battery is said to allow the FD60 to work for up to 10 hours. As well as a 3kW range extender, it is possible to specify eight roof-mounted solar panels (each 3.7kW). These produce 23.5kWh a day.
Wheel spacing on the FD60 is adjustable from 4.6m to 6.75m. Row spacing is from 25cm allows it to drill a wide range of crops, including onions, maize, sugar beet and spinach.
The FD20 remains the right fit for smaller fields, says the company. The FD60 is for farms looking to cover more ground. FarmDroid reckons to have delivered over 500 FD20s to 26 different countries since building the first one in 2018.
