The challenging market conditions in the agricultural machinery sector are behind Lemken’s decision to temporarily introduce short-time work at the Alpen site in Germany.
The corresponding works agreement has been signed, and short-time work is planned for the period from July 1 to December 31, 2026. It is not known how many jobs are affected, but the Alpen site, which is also Lemken HQ, employees around 1,200 staff and the plant produces approx. 15,000 ploughs, cultivators, compact disc harrows, power harrows and seedbed combinations a year.

It is currently planned to reduce working hours at the Alpen site by one day per week. The planning is carried out monthly and enables the company to react flexibly to changes in the order situation. The service and spare parts departments will continue to be fully accessible to customers. The Haren site (Competence Center for Seeding Technology) is exempt from the regulation.
“We continue to experience a very challenging market environment in which many external factors influence our customers’ investment decisions,” explains Lemken CEO Klaus Kuhl. “That is why we are acting now to stabilize our structures and secure our ability to act in the long term.”
“We know that short-time work means a noticeable change for our employees,” he adds. “At the same time, it is an important instrument for reacting to the current situation at an early stage and responsibly. Our goal is to secure employment and to lead Lemken solidly through this market phase.”
