Manitou’s MLT 841 and 1041 models can now be equipped with an optional Smart Weigh System (SWS), that has been developed in-house by the French maker. Using a combination of six pressure sensors – there are two each in the main lift ram, compensation ram and headstock ram – it affords static and dynamic weighing that is claimed to deliver an accuracy of +/- 2%.

By monitoring boom angle, length of reach and angle of carriage, this weighing process constantly updates payload weight, without needing to stop and let the system settle. The payload is shown on the in-cab screen, and a tare function enables operators to zero SWS after changing attachments.

Added capability comes from basic weighing, cumulative weighing and target weighing functions, and for those who feed livestock rations, SWS software affords a ration capability that can be used to store up to 44 ingredients in 13 rations.

In addition to being a factory option, SWS can be retro-fitted at a cost of £3,500. Manitou says SWS is likely to be rolled-out across the rest of its telehandler range later in the year.
