Just 2,228 new tractors were registered in the UK in first three months of this year. Down nearly 23% on the 2,891 units in same three months in 2024, it was the lowest quarterly number for 24 years, reports the AEA.
The downturn affected all power segments. The biggest fall was for the highest-powered machines, with registrations of 240hp+ tractors down by nearly 45% year on year. The 161-200hp power band was down by a fifth and 42% fewer 101-120hp tractors were registered.
The reduction in registrations was seen across all parts of the country. The smallest decline was in the southern half of England, where tractor numbers were down by less than 20%.
The biggest year-on-year fall was in Yorkshire and North East England, where registrations only reached around half the numbers logged in the opening three months of 2024. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all saw falls of between a fifth and a third.
