Only a handful of the Swed-Trac tractors made in the 1980s are still in Sweden. One of them is up for auction.
The Swedish company only made around 60 tractors before it was declared bankrupt in 1987. Owned by the Pihlgren brothers, Swed-Trac never went on to conquer the world, but the tractors have nonetheless become a piece of Swedish tractor history.

The Swed-Trac is a Swedish cult classic with Polish roots – the cab and the axles came from Ursus.
The model up for auction on Klaravik is a Swed-Trac ST 1674. One of a handful of survivors of the approx. 30 first generation units made from 1984 to 1986, current owner Mikael Larsson bought the 1985-built 4wd tractor in 1994.

It has done very few hours (nearly 2,200) and is in original condition, including the interior. Top speed is 30km/hr. There’s only one key.
Mikael describes it as a ‘tractor unicorn’. “It really was a tractor ahead of its time,” he says. “Big, high-horsepower tractors like this were unusual back then and with its 167hp Scania engine, it was more substantial than most tractors when it came out. To me, this is a ‘tractor Ferrari’. It’s a true cult classic and, together with Volvo BM, a major piece of Swedish tractor history.”
Mikael is hoping for strong interest, both in Sweden and abroad. “Whoever buys it, I hope it ends up with someone who sees it as a museum piece and treats it accordingly.”
The online auction ends on 28 October.
