CVTs for the Valtra Q and S series tractors are now produced at the expanded transmission plant at the Suolahti facility.

Up until now, the Finnish factory manufactured transmissions for N and T series tractors, and supplied powershifts for the South American market and transmission components for other Agco plants. Now, the larger production space at Suolahti provides plenty of space to build and test new CVTs for the Q (230-305hp) and S (280-420hp) series.

“This investment will allow us to double our transmission capacity and bring new expertise to the Valtra lineup,” says Kullervo Mansikkala, transmission plant manager.

The larger transmission plant is part of a US$38m investment at Suolahti by parent company Agco. Some of this spend was earmarked for the new 2,000m² paint shop and the assembly line has been ‘tweaked’ to accommodate the heavier Q and S series tractors.

This is all part of a plan to ramp up production at the Finnish plant and increase Valtra’s share of the European tractor market to in excess of 10% by 2026. The Q series, the fastest growing power segment in western Europe, will play an important role in this, and the S series market is also increasing.
