Blowing out multi-layered radiator packs can be tricky, never mind the air filters or the rest of the machine. Like so many things, there are tools out there to make the job much easier, such as Aerotec’s lance and nozzle set-up.

The HF Pro 1000 Combi compressed-air gun from Aerotec can be bought online (we purchased this one from conrad.de for €58 incl. VAT), though after a further quick search on the internet we were also able to find it with UK retailers for around £51 all in.

Measuring one metre in length, it is more of a long lance than a gun. It is designed for an operating pressure of up to 10 bar with an air consumption figure of up to 160l/min with a full pull of the trigger.

The 12mm tube has a 3/8-inch female thread at the end, into which one of the supplied nozzles is screwed. One of these is a turbo nozzle that makes good use of the so-called Venturi effect. With four holes in the sides of the nozzle body, this creates a suction effect as the compressed air flows through the nozzle, thereby increasing the volume of air exiting at the front. The manufacturer says the volume increases to as much as 2,200l/min.

We found the aluminium gun produced lots of blowing power and good control. Even large areas on machines could be cleaned properly. There were occasional blockages when the nozzle got too close to residues and sucked them in.

360° nozzle

The second nozzle is a cylindrical 360° nozzle. Here, the air exits through 12 holes arranged all the way round the nozzle, each 2mm in diameter. It doesn’t deliver the force of the turbo nozzle, but it is sufficient for blowing out the likes of engine radiator fins or cylindrical air filters. A 30cm long foam sleeve provides a comfortable grip, though annoyingly this tends to slip down during work.
