Hydrema’s MPV 900 made its debut in January 1999 at the Agromek show in Denmark. Promising to be a telehandler, tool carrier and tractor all in one neat package, it struck a chord with many farmers on day one. And although its main application is for municipal duties, we just had to find out what the versatile machine can offer the demanding world of agriculture

Two three-point linkages, two ptos, ample load space, four equally sized wheels, a mid-mounted cab and pivot steering – at first glance, the Hydrema MPV 900 appears to be the ultimate tool carrier concept. It also has an infinitely variable hydrostatic transmission and can be transformed into a telehandler within five minutes. So who wouldn’t want such a versatile all-rounder?

Power for the MPV comes from a 90kW/123hp Perkins engine mounted beneath the cab floor. It delivers such generous hydraulic system performance that the machine does not require an extra hydraulic circuit to operate the machine’s demountable telescopic boom assembly. And using a hydraulically folding quick-attach bracket, it takes about five minutes to fit or demount the telehandler attachment to the machine.

UK agriculture has, perhaps, only a limited requirement for Hydrema’s MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle). While the two pto speeds are infinitely adjustable, the hydrostatic motors produce only 36kW/50hp, limiting the type of implements which can be driven using the Hydrema. However, pulling a trailer or plough is not a problem for the Hydrema
