TRACTOR TEST: Blue fans have a choice when it comes to purchasing a ‘200hp’ New Holland: the T7.225 or T7.230. Both are rated at 132kW/180hp, but, after stoking their fires, maximum power climbs to a claimed 165kW/225hp. So what exactly sets the T7.230 ‘small but big’ and ‘big but small’ T7.225 tractors apart? Read on to find out.
The New Holland T7 comes in two flavours — SWB and LWB. No prizes for fathoming those two acronyms. Yup, they stand for short wheelbase (279cm) and long wheelbase (289cm). And another key distinction is their kerb weights, a 1.4t difference. That additional metal can be found in their contrasting axles, rear linkages, wheels and, in the case here, their NH AutoCommand transmissions.
Our T7.230 AC test tractor is the smallest model in the LWB line-up, while its counterpart in the SWB family is the T7.225 AC. Both are rated at 132kW/180hp, with their main differences already highlighted. If you want to delve into th performance stats a little further, then we tested the T7.225’s brother from another mother, the Puma 175 CVX, in the 02/2016 issue.
