The latest additions to a long fertiliser spreading heritage, Amazone’s new ZA-V spreaders boast a mechanical driveline, completely revamped spreading unit and an updated border spreading system
First up, here come the basic vital stats. Amazone’s new ZA-V models are available with hopper capacities from 1,700 litres to 4,200 litres and, depending on that capacity,
Amazone offers a choice of different attachment frames — a Cat II ‘Super’ frame for payloads of up to 3,200kg or a Cat III ‘Ultra’ frame for up to 4,500kg. Yet it’s the new spreading system that’s likely to attract most attention. Claimed to deliver a 20% larger spreading width than competitor two-disc spreaders in this price/ spec bracket, the ZA-V’s spreading unit is powered mechanically by a 540rpm pto with a friction clutch for overload protection.
The discs spin at a speed of 720rpm. Two highlights of the spreading unit are its metering slide/aperture and agitator. The former allows a maximum throughput of 6.4kg per second, which, combined with a 27m working width and 12km/hr speed, results in an application rate of 700kg/ha — an increase of 16% on the rate achievable with Amazone’s enduringly popular ZA-M.
Additional apertures and funnelling mean the hopper should empty almost completely, leaving little product to clean out at the end of a spreading day. That should go down well with spreader operators, as should the fact that the aperture’s profile has the effect of ‘automatically’ altering the fertiliser drop-on point onto the disc whenever the application rate is altered.
