The Czech tractor manufacturer unveiled the prototype of a four-pot 6-series tractor at last week’s Techagro farm machinery show.

Last autumn, Zetor hinted it was close to launching its most powerful four-cylinder range to date and a Deutz-powered line up that would peak at 170hp (see link at end).

The full details have yet to surface, but we understand that the 6 series prototype at the Brno exhibition centre forms part of a new range to replace the Forterra HD (130, 140 and 150) and Crystal HD 170. Zetor says that the new model numbering; 6130, 6140, 6150 and 6170, will allow it to better express the size of the tractor and the approximate engine power. The transmission type will also be included after the model number.

The model numbering will eventually come to all Zetor tractors. For now, though, the company stresses that the 6 series is not just about the numbers. There are lots of other updates including a new transmission and engine, higher payloads and new controls. Plus, there is an ISObus system, and the new models are prepared for smart farming.

Power to the 130-170hp range comes from a 4.1l Stage V Deutz block. There is nothing official, but the four-pot block in the new flagship would appear to replace the six-pot Deutz engine in the current Crystal HD170. With Zetor soon to offer a four-pot range up to 170hp, there would appear to be scope to develop a new six-pot range from 170hp to somewhere north of 200hp. The 7 series?

What we can reveal is that the improved six-stage (three reverse) ZF powershift in the 6 series provides 30 forward (top speed 40km/hr) and 15 reverse speeds. The optional creeper box increases this number to 54fx27r. Max rear lift capacity is 7.2t (front 3.5t) and rear pto speed is 540e/1000e (front 1000rpm).

Zetor hopes to start making the first 6 series tractors next year.
