USED MACHINERY: First introduced in May 1994 as replacements for the popular and well-established 85/95 tractors, the 50hp to 90hp Case IH 3200 and 4200 models were essentially upgrades of what went before. Compact and well specified for their intended small arable and livestock farm markets, the new tractors were popular from day one. But not all were trouble-free, as James de Havilland reports

Reputation is everything when it comes to establishing what makes a sound used tractor buy. In some instances, however, reputations are formed without looking beyond the rumours and concentrating on fact. Yes, Case IH certainly did have problems with the 32/4200 series at launch. But not every tractor suffered, and those that did should have had any problems resolved under warranty.

Moreover, the company had built over 22,000 units by the end of 1996. This a tidy sum in less than two years and more than enough
for any real problems to have been thrashed out.
