More familiar as a big potato machinery specialist, Grimme is transferring some of its spud know-how into the sugar beet sector with the firm’s first selfpropelled six-row harvester unit. Martin Rickatson caught up with the prototype machine last autumn, ahead of its launch at this winter’s Agritechnica
A Grimme self-propelled? In a beet field? Surely some mistake? But no. There’s no mistake. Long established as a potato machinery specialist, the firm has decided to enter the increasingly competitive self-propelled sugar beet harvester sector with a six-row tanker.
And the move would seem to be a logical one. The company has years of experience in potato machinery, and there is a great deal of possible crossover technology in the two crop harvesting sectors. Also logical is the new machine’s title, the SF6-20. That’s a six-row harvester with a 20t capacity holding tank.
