When it comes to quality ploughing, settings are everything. So operators will be relieved to learn that there’s no shortage of plough adjustments on the Grégoire-Besson RWY8 mounted reversible, many of which can be carried out from the comfort of the tractor cab without relying on electronic sensors
IWith the ever increasing lift capacity and stronger backends on modern tractors, farmers have been opting for larger, mounted reversible ploughs. Grégoire-Besson in the UK reckons the average mounted plough is now five- or six furrows, and the Lincolnshire-based distributor has even sold some seven-furrow models.
Yet as ploughs grow in size and weight, the stress on the tractor’s rear linkage increases dramatically as the hefty implement is raised and lowered on the headland. The top link in particular is exposed to some colossal dynamic strains that could eventually cause serious damage to the plough or tractor.
To reduce this risk, Grégoire-Besson has developed a damping system for the top link, which attaches on to a linkage that can move inside the headstock. Tensioned by a stocky hydraulic ram, this linkage is connected up to an accumulator so that it can act as a shock absorber.
