Driving impression: Massey Ferguson 7499 Dyna-VT At Agritechnica 2009 Massey Ferguson introduced the 7499 Dyna-VT, a new range-topper for the 7400 series. Since then it’s been something of an enigma – a situation that we’re about to put right with this driving impression.
At the moment Massey Ferguson is the only tractor maker bold enough to publish pto output figures. And according to the paperwork, every 7499 should deliver at least 151kW/205hp at its stubby shaft. So there it stands: a figure for anyone to verify, with no ifs or buts. We think that’s a major step forward and can only hope that the other tractor brands will be enlightened enough to follow suit. The newcomers’ extra engine capacity is achieved by stretching the six-cylinder isu unit’s stroke by 14mm. Otherwise the engine is largely unchanged. t’s still physically the same size and so are the tractors that carry it: the wheelbase stays at a reasonable 3.00m, while the minimum weight is low at 7.4t. Subtracting this from the maximum allowable gross weight of 12.5t leaves room for an impressive 5.1t payload.
