The mounted tine and disc cultivator market has been steadily growing in the UK for more than six years now, and one of the latest entrants is Grégoire Besson with its Combimix. To check out the ‘Combi’ action, Mervyn Bailey put a 3m model to work.

IThere’s no doubt that mounted machines carry a lower price tag than trailed kit, and this has been one of the major attractions of the 3m tine and disc cultivators that have grown so dramatically in popularity with UK farmers wanting to have a toe in the mintill game. Here within the UK the mounted tine and disc cultivator market is estimated to be well over 100 machines annually, and the concept is starting to appeal to farmersin other countries such as Ireland, where ploughing is still the preferred route for knocking up a potential seedbed.

Being mounted means that the tractor can exploit its draft capability, so less power is required than from an out-and-out tug for trailed kit. The 3m mounted unit has also proved a happy marriage with 180hp plus tractors, a prime mover capacity that’s now increasingly found on medium-sized arable farms.
