DRIVING IMPRESSION: Looking to speed up wrapping times, Tanco has come up with a three-arm wrapper, the S300, capable of applying six layers of film in around 20sec

One, two or three wrapping arms, tractor linkage- or loader-mounted, the Tanco Variwrap S series has a lot of tricks up its sleeve. Replacing the 1310EH and 1320EH round bale wrappers are the logically named S100 and S200, respectively armed with one and two film dispensers. But, with six layers of film becoming more popular, the Carlow-based engineers decided to fit a third arm and create the S300 when the S series came out in 2015. Last September we caught up with an S300 operating in Ireland.

Compared with the 1320EH, the main frame has been beefed up and, although the firm sticks with the tubular structure, the satellite tower and chassis are a one-piece robot welded construction. A lot of the design features have been carried over such as the two powered rollers — one smooth, one ribbed — for rotating the bale. These rollers open outward for loading and then close to load and raise the bale into its wrapping position.

The wrapping arms are also hydraulically powered with a maximum flow requirement of 40l/min, which shouldn’t be a problem for machines expected to lift and handle the wrapper. Note that the machine weighs in at 715-905kg, depending on the model.
