Amazone wants to be among the first implement manufacturers to work with an autonomous tractor, which is why it bought a stake in AgXeed earlier this year. Here a tracked AgBot struts its stuff with the Germany machinery maker’s front hopper and power harrow/precision drill combination

The AgBot from Dutch start-up AgXeed, is an autonomous tracked tractor that, according to the manufacturer, can do everything a standard 150hp tractor can do — pull, lift and provide pto and hydraulic power. And with its on-board diesel generator, it also has a high-voltage 700V DC socket, compliant to AEF standards, to power electrified implements.

We already took an early look at the AgBot in the 9/2021 issue, and more recently it has been on tour in the UK following its debut showing at Cereals in June. But all of this was doing relatively simple work with what might be categorised as ‘dumb’ implements such as cultivators or disc harrows. So, how does the autonomous tractor perform when tasked with a more challenging job such as planting maize or other crops?

With an FTender 1600 front hopper and 3.0m combination of a power harrow, complete with wedge ring roller and Precea precision drill on the rear, the outfit certainly appears an impressive rig. But will it be able to plant maize on its own?
