We’ve been lucky enough to get an exclusive opportunity to test-drive the flagship model in Valtra’s new six-cylinder T-series line. With behind the scenes access to the development of the new range over the past year, these are our first impressions.
Valtra’s fourth generation of its six cyl T-series tractors is finally here. But unlike previous incarnations, this new range hasn’t just had a refresh; virtually everything is new. It has been a long time coming and on paper looks worth the wait.
Six models stretching from 155hp to 235hp will replace the eight in the current 130hp to 215hp line-up. And, as before, they are powered by either 6.6-litre or 7.4-litre Sisu (AGCO Power) engines. Valtra’s own stepless CVT and powershift transmissions are still on offer, although the old school HiTech stick-shift box is off the options list until summer 2015. In contrast, the others are now starting to roll off the line.
There are three different spec levels to choose from:
■■ Active — 30F/30R powershift with four mechanical spool valves
■■ Versu — 30F/30R powershift with up to eight electronic spool valves
■■ Direct — stepless CVT with up to eight electronic spool valves.
But the most striking change comes in the cab and the tractor’s overall styling. Gone is Valtra’s distinctive slab-sided cabin that has graced the Finnish firm’s machines for over 25 years. In its place is something altogether curvier and more modern looking. In fact, when you take a step back, the new T4 is about as close as it comes to cutting edge design in the world of farm machinery
