Case IH and New Holland previewed a new high density square baler at Agritechnica, capable of packing 20% more material into each bale … hence the introduction of the new double knotter system a couple of months ago that will be utilised on the rest of the baler range.

As a Case IH it will be called the LB436HD, while New Holland is tagging it the Big Baler 1290 High Density. The baler has a new chassis with the flywheel mounted on a tube so there is less risk of debris build-up. Crop is gathered by a 2.35m (tine-to tine), five bar pick-up with a 29-knife chopping system as standard with manual blade selection.

A two-speed transmission makes it easier to get the flywheel up and running. On the standard 120×90 baler the plunger produces 40t of force; on the HD it’s 62t at a rate of 48 strokes/min. Bale density is controlled by seven rams, and the running gear has hydraulic suspension that can also be used to jack up the machine for servicing.
