A ‘short nose’ County 1474 from 1984 sold for a staggering £214,400 at a recent Cheffins classic tractor and machinery sale. The tractor smashed its presale estimate of £120,000-140,000.

Having been fully restored, the tractor now holds the record for the most expensive modern classic tractor sold to date, exceeding the previous highest price at a Cheffins sale of £210,112 for a 1983 ‘short nose’ County 1474 in July, last year.

Other significant tractor prices during the two-day sale included £73,000 for a 2004 JCB 2140, £48,240 for a 1983 Mercedes-Benz MB-Trac 1500 and £42,880 for a 1974 County 1164.

The sale (April 22-23) saw over 2,800 lots go under the hammer and buyers in attendance from across the UK and Europe. Held at the Sutton sale ground, the event grossed over £2m.
