Chafer has updated its 2007-launched Guardian and Sentry trailed sprayers, and visitors to the recent Cereals event will have witnessed the result. For those of you who didn’t make it on to the Chafer stand at the show, here’s a brief run-through of one member of the new family — a 4,000-litre/30m Guardian ‘e’. Lacking in the latest application tech? It certainly isn’t, as you’re about to find out
Time stands still for no machinery firm — least of all sprayer makers, which operate in a sector where technical developments proceed apace… and then some. Typical of the breed, Lincs-based Chafer Machinery may have built its reputation on no-frills liquid fertiliser applicators, but it’s now as high tech as the best of the rest of the European sprayer maker pack. Proving the point are the latest features that adorn the new generation of Guardian and Sentry models. To summarise, new Guardian and Guardian ‘e’ are available with tank sizes of 3,000-, 3,500- and 4,000 litres and three F-series boom widths of 12/24m twin-fold, 12/24/ 28m tri-fold and 12/24/30m tri-fold.
In contrast, the heavier built Sentry and Sentry ‘e’ are sold with tank sizes of 4,000-, 5,000- and 6,000 litres, plus the F-series boom range (as above) but with the addition of seven more triple-fold booms: G series 12/24/30m, 12/24/32m, 12/24/36m and 12/24/40m; and H-series 14/28/36m, 14/28/40m and 14/28/42m. Something for everyone, then, although for the purposes of this review we focus on a 4,000-litre Guardian ‘e’ fitted with a 12/24/30m F-series tri-fold. Tug is a 150hp Fendt 516.
