Driving impression: Chillton MX150 Flexpilot loader Come fly with the Flexpilot… Oil is something best kept outside of a tractor cab, most would agree. There’s nothing worse than trying to find your tools or sandwich box amidst leaky cans and greasy rags behind the seat. Chillton’s latest loader operation system, though, brings the operational benefits of close-at-hand oil right into the operator’s palm. Martin Rickatson tries it out

There’s not much to a front loader – a subframe, pair of beams, two sets of rams, a carriage. But then looks can be deceptive. This basic description may apply to loaders of old, but the sector has advanced considerably in recent years, with joystick controls, higher capacities and from-the-seat attachment changing all adding to the implement’s appeal.

Staffs-based Chillton, which imports the Mailleux loader range, today sold under the ‘MX’ brand name, suggests that these are some of the reasons why loaders are bucking the trend of the 1980s and taking out dedicated handlers on farms where the versatility of a tractor is seen as more important than the greater lift height and reach of a telescopic.
