USED MACHINERY: When Claas launched its new-for-2011 Lexion 600 and 700 models, the main changes over the outgoing 500 and 600 combines were the cab, the new performance enhancing CEMOS ‘optimisation system’ and engine/hydraulic tweaks. Our focus here is on the 2011-2013 first-generation Lexion 700s
Sometimes a simple question comes with a less than straightforward answer, but, in the case of 2011-model-year-and-on Lexion 600 and 700 series combines, differentiation between the two ranges is pretty easy. The 600 series matches the established Claas APS primary threshing with either five or six straw walkers; the APS Hybrid 700 models feature twin longitudinal Roto Plus rotors instead of straw walkers. That’s it.
Just to throw a small spanner into this simple outline, the previous 2003-2010 Lexion generation was headed by the 600 APS Hybrid in 2005, this machine giving way to the range-topping Lexion 770 in 2011. See our basic model outline table to get an idea of how the 500, 600 and 700 models compare between the generations.
A bit of good news for those on the hunt for a 700 series is that these models now outsell their straw walker equipped Lexion 600 series siblings. Less welcome is the fact that the greatest used demand is for narrower ‘sub-3.50m’ combines: Terra Trac-equipped 750 and narrow 760 machines at around 3.30m wide are currently very popular on the pre-owned market, and this is particularly the case as you head farther west. In short, you need to put out feelers early if you’re after this width of combine
