Lincs self-propelled sprayer specialist Househam tends to follow a policy of continuously updating its models rather than spending too heavily on developing a new range. Martin Rickatson finds out whether last spring’s design revisions keep the machines up with the self-propelled sprayer pack
No longer a name, but an ID number. Househam has dropped the old Sprint and Imp badges for its sprayer line-up, and their associated Super versions, in favour of simpler model numbers by tank size – 2000, 2500 etc. But this fresh set of unit designations has also heralded a raft of improvements across the range.
Without doubt the most significant of these is Air-Ride, the firm’s new air suspension set-up. Air-Ride uses a system similar to that found on many commercial vehicles, with four Goodyear industrial air springs, one at each wheel between the axle and chassis. While the chassis still uses the firm’s pivoting front A-frame axle/rear trailing arm set-up, it is now equipped with new heavy-duty dampers which Househam says are tuned to the characteristics of the air springs to result in an enhanced ‘rebound’ damping effect.
