After selling its former baler factory to French machinery giant Kuhn, Kverneland daughter brand Vicon is now back in the round baler business with both fixed- and variable-chamber machines. Andrew Faulkner takes a tour of what is likely to be the UK’s best-selling Vicon model, the variable-chamber RV 4216

Vicon without a baler? It almost equates to New Holland without a combine, Claas without a forager, JCB without a digger.

Somehow it doesn’t feel quite right. Yet with the sale of Vicon’s baler factory to Kuhn in 2008 we were almost there. Had the Kverneland Group not bought into Italian baler maker Gallignani, it is entirely possible that KV daughter brand Vicon would have been left without a baler in its portfolio and had its grassland offering limited to just rakes, tedders and disc mowers. But that’s enough ‘what ifs’. The 2010/11 reality is that Vicon does now have a baler line-up in the UK, both fixed- and variable-chamber:
