DRIVING IMPRESSION: With farms covering wider areas and no sign of increasing weight limits for agricultural trailers, is the joint Fliegl/Horsch commercial trailer and tracked undercarriage for work in the field a sensible solution for UK ag businesses? We take a look at how the system works and ask the opinion of one of the first users
The commercial trailer, tracked undercarriage project between Horsch and Fliegl is not very new. Indeed the two firms have been trialling the combination for a couple of years now. The combination consists of a HGV tipping trailer that offers all the efficiency benefits of using a truck on the road while at the same time treading gently in the field thanks to the bespoke tracked chassis, which is pulled by a tractor.
The initial trials took place on the Horsch farm in the Czech Republic, where the nifty combination was used to haul grain maize in a controlled traffic farming system. The set-up moved to Germany last year when root crop grower Dörpel Agrar adapted it to its needs for taking potatoes from harvester to store.
