Back in 2015 Claas announced it was to cease its long-standing telescopic handler partnership with Kramer and join forces with construction equipment giant Liebherr instead. Although said to be new models from the ground up, 2019 Scorpions share many common components with their Kramer-built predecessors.
For example, they retain the GKN-sourced hydro Varipower transmission, side-mounted boom, attachment carriage, joystick and a number of controls.

After a bit of a delay, Claas Scorpion telehandlers are now rolling off the Liebherr line in Austria. We managed to get our hands on the mid-range 741 Varipower model, to find out what’s changed with the move away from Kramer-built machines
